So I just wanted to do that. We might need to re-record it because my camera is not working today. But anyway, can you show the screen, Dona? Yeah. So as you can see, it's just a five-minute presentation. But we realize that a lot of, so we do not have a dissertation or a thesis in the IHCS curriculum. Like a lot of fellowships don't have it either. But they mandate that they either have a research degree beforehand coming to a subspecialty fellowship. But as such, in the IHCS program or NESCO, we do not have a dissertation. So a lot of countries or the fellows are actually not being exposed to a lot of research methodology. And we just thought that we just want to find out what is your needs in terms of promoting this angle. So the education committee of IHCS formed a research publication committee, co-public committee in between. And then Dr. Stellar is a chair. I'm the co-chair. And we wanted to actually ask the following questions to the fellows. Next slide, please. So move to the next slide, please. So in order, so that basically the goals is to have an increased output for research proposal development so that you can develop your own research proposals like multi-centric amongst the all IHCS sites. Research participation, for example, the GCIG studies or other studies so that you are research ready. And that means it's not only you. It is you, your radiation oncology, medical oncology, your clinical research team, and everything, and possibly academic studies. And also to encourage publications from fellows while they are doing fellowships. Most of the times what happens in many countries that it is their bosses, they are doing a study. And they just ask the fellows to do data collection. But the whole idea, the conception design, the analysis plan, everything is actually from the supervisors. But it is encouraging the fellows actually to find out your research question, your concept. You develop your methodological plan, and analysis, and conduct the study. So that is actually what we are looking for to make them the future generation PI. So we asked a few questions. So we started a survey. And we actually, there are 70 fellows in IGCS who are either doing or they have graduated. So we invited for an introductory meeting and survey. And then we personally asked each group. We did some Zoom sessions to tell about the survey. Survey was sent out. And then we kind of compiled the survey. And then just to give you some highlights. So next slide, please. So we asked that, have you had any formal research training? As you can see, 44% said no. Do you need any mentoring support in research and publication? 96% said yes. Have you published any papers? No, 34% haven't published any papers as first authors or any name. Would you like to be a part of the research network? There is one. Everybody wants to be a part of it. Next slide, please. And then, this is about what you find and support in publishing a paper, whether you strongly agree and agree, how to write a paper, designing your database. So there's a lot of things, a lot of people. I think the top ones are, it's in a hierarchy. And you can see, I think most of the people want support in publishing a paper, their own paper. And then how to write a paper, how to appraise literature. So this is what we find from the survey. Next slide, please. I'm not going to go through it, but then I'm going to go through the next couple of slides. So basically, next slide, please. So as you can see, that if we asked a question, that if IGCS started online training or we developed a research module in your curriculum, like you have a pre-invasive module. So if we started a research module, so what are the areas would you like us to cover or you want to research? So most of the people have actually gone for, they want to learn how to do a meta-analysis. And then to properly do observational studies or case report, then interventional, then trial designs. And so you can see the implementation studies. I think it's coming up, but it's a new thing. Some people have also gone for qualitative studies. So much you can see that most, you know, the way we are thinking now. So we will keep that in mind when we develop our modules. So next slide, please. And have you heard about the IGCS Early Career Network or GCIG Young Investigator Network or CCRM? As you can see, most of people, IGCS fellows, of course they know about IGCS, but they know very little about the parallel research training programs or activities, which is going parallel. For example, GCIG Young Investigator or CCRM. So these are some of the areas that we would want to be frequent. And I will be delivering this lecture for each and every IGCS eCotumal Board. And then how often you want to meet, I think, you know, monthly has been proposed by most of you. Next slide, please. And then I just thought that, you know, based on what you have said, we will formulate a research plan. And so basically the first thing is that we're integrating all these modules or we're developing, trying to develop these modules. Rene Pereja from Columbia, he has done quite a lot in Spanish. So we're translating them into English and then we will put them into your learning management system. GCIG is also concentrating very hard on developing a research curriculum and how to do trials or, you know, all that sort of, and modules, which I'm going to be a part of it as well. And the idea is to encourage more research and researchers from low middle income countries. And these could be very simple studies for like hypofractionating radiotherapy or, you know, like simple stuff. We have a RedCap database for meta-analysis group in GCIG. And a lot of you are familiar with putting data in RedCap. So it is easy. There are certain things of like dedicated programs, like a master's course in gyne-oncology in several universities who are training the gyne-oncology fellows, how to do specific research. So that is the things that we will be developing over the next two years. And do you need mentoring support for research and publications? I mean, there are a lot of themes which came out, mainly being funding to publish journals, which ask for funding. So maybe identify a journal or develop a journal which does not have publication charges. That was one of the top priorities. Then also, a lot of people have started writing a paper and then it gets rejected, rejected, and then you get so rejected that you don't want to pursue in getting it published. So it takes around, sometimes when you start, it takes around maybe one and a half year to two year to even publish one paper. But you have to learn, maybe there are some tricks and tips which make it better. So we possibly will arrange certain sessions. But IGCS has this journal club and they have a research publication. The meeting, Aarti is a member of it. So there are avenues which teaches you how to write a good quality paper and maybe so that your perseverance rate might be reduced. So basically, we are going to invite some teams or research proposal from fellows. Mentors can assist, but you can identify some question and maybe how you want to do a research, whether you want to do an observational studies like a survey, and then do amongst all the IGCS fellows or you want to do an original study in your own. So we will be helping you out one-to-one, perhaps in assisting you with the process. And then as we say that we are already also proposing that all the cases which you have entered in the REDCUP database, for example, we have now almost 1,500 radical hysterectomies entering to the REDCUP database from the fellows or ovarian cancer. So we could do a simple analysis of these and all of your names are there, but you all work together. Maybe there are some missing data. So we reach out to the fellows that were writing this paper, we form a group, and then you say, okay, this should be the inclusion exclusion. This is what we should analyze. And then go back to your own cases. Okay, we haven't given this data, so let's get it out. So that is a way, it's a simple way of doing a multicentric study from all the data that you have entered. And maybe we just need a little bit fortification on that. And then also you have your, I just, your like the ecotumor work presentations. You know, for example, we have had two presentations on vaginal radical hysterectomy, three or four cases actually with the extra pair. So maybe we can put down all those as a case series and publish. So we have journals like the gynecology reports with the global issue has an APC waiver. So you don't need to pay for it. So there are certain other journals as well. I spoke to Pedro and there is a section in the IGCS journal as well. I think, you know, if it is coming from a low middle income country, they might consider waiver for certain types of articles. So it's already knowing where to go. If you fail that, then where to go. So it's about knowing the hierarchy as well. So these are the things that we will be doing in the next few months. Next slide, please. And then, you know, as I say, developing the modules, as you have said that you need support, maybe in statistical support, publishing a paper. And, you know, so we, the modules will be taking into consideration on what you want and, you know, the frequency. So there will be certain things as, and maybe we will want to actually include you in particular module developments so that, you know, if somebody has done meta-analysis before, then they can perhaps participate in developing the modules. So that is what we would be encouraging from the fellows to be a part as trainers or developing the module leaders for this module. Next slide, please. And then, as I say, integrating IGCS fellows into the GCIG Young Investigator Program, because of course there are several clinical trials and they learn a lot how to do research. CCRN is a Cervical Cancer Research Network of GCIG. Again, it does conduct a lot of academic studies, academic clinical trials. So maybe you will learn from the step one, you know, how to conduct, how to assess feasibility of a trial site. You know, what is the procedure? Because it is different from an academic study to an industry-sponsored study. So that is what we would be doing. Maybe we will develop a module in your trainee assessment performer, which you do every six months to kind of find out that whether you have any elements of research methodology training or any publications or something like that. And then lastly, that we will be developing a group of mentors for this committee so that, you know, maybe individuals or individual countries may be linked with that group of mentors who can develop them, who can help them in several aspects, including finding maybe statistical support and all. So that is something I will be very willing to be developing throughout the next two years and then linking you all to relevant groups. Next slide, please, if there is any, I don't know. Yeah, and then, as I say, we will be proposing a date maybe for each region, maybe South Asia or Africa or something like that, region for a monthly meeting to catch up on your ideas or the follow-up that we have. And then, as you say, the IGCS research network, the Young Career Network is a very good one and it's important to be connected because nowadays nobody does a single center big study. You know, it's good to do a multi-centric study because you get the generalization or your application, so it is a good way to, through your 70 fellows that you have in IGCS to network amongst each others and attend maybe their other tumor boards so you develop friendship and so that when you do a study, it's easy to get their participation in your study as well as you would be participating in their studies. So that's what I think a lot of them will be covered in your learning management system. Next slide, please. So that's it. So I like to, I will circulate these two individual groups, but I would like you to, from the fellows to find out what is it that you want us as a research publication committee to help you with? Is there any ideas that you have? And so we will again incorporate these and this itself, the publication and action plan, we will write up as a publication and all of you who have participated in the survey will be co-authors in the publication. So that will be the start and then we are looking into, as I say, breaking down the database of procedures, for example, radical hysterectomies, ovarians and all done across all the sites. So some of you may want to volunteer to help us in that process in the write-up and data extraction and networking with the other fellows and find out the missing data to write the right paper. So we will be reaching out to you so that we all, or you all can be part of some multi-centric IGCS publications. So that is the goal. And yeah, so we stay connected. So that's all I have. Anybody, if they have any comments or anything, they can always...
Video Summary
The video discusses the need for research training in the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS) fellowship program. The video outlines the formation of a research publication committee and their goals of increasing research proposal development, research participation, and publication from fellows. The committee conducted a survey and found that many fellows lacked formal research training and needed mentoring support. The survey also revealed interest in learning areas such as meta-analysis and observational studies. The committee plans to develop research modules and integrate fellows into existing research networks. They also aim to provide mentoring support and facilitate multicentric studies using the IGCS database.
