This August 2026 “Ed’s List” highlights several important gynecologic oncology publications and themes: - <strong>Cervical cancer prevention:</strong> A large U.S. study found that the proportion of women who have <strong>never been screened for cervical cancer is rising</strong>, especially among younger women and underserved groups. This increase parallels <strong>more advanced cervical cancer diagnoses</strong>, reinforcing the need for targeted screening and HPV vaccination efforts. - <strong>Ovarian cancer therapeutics and biology:</strong> Multiple studies focused on ovarian cancer. A major retrospective cohort showed that patients with <strong>exceptional long-term responses to PARP inhibitors</strong> often remain progression-free even after stopping therapy, with a <strong>low risk of late MDS/AML</strong>, raising the possibility of functional cure in some patients. A biomarker study suggested <strong>cervicovaginal lipid profiles</strong> may aid minimally invasive endometrial cancer detection. - <strong>Hereditary cancer and pathology:</strong> Deeper sectioning and AI-assisted review improved detection of occult <strong>STIC/HGSC lesions</strong> in RRSO specimens from BRCA carriers, supporting a tubal origin for some peritoneal HGSC. Multi-omics analyses also identified <strong>novel susceptibility factors</strong> in suspected HBOC cases. - <strong>AI in cancer care:</strong> Two articles emphasized that patient-facing online information about AI in cancer care is <strong>low quality, hard to read, and often omits safety concepts</strong>, underscoring the need for patient AI literacy.
