Pdf Summary
Ed's List May 2020 provides a compilation of abstracts related to gynecologic oncology. One study evaluated the effects of watching Disney movies during chemotherapy on quality of life among gynecologic cancer patients. The results suggested that watching Disney movies was associated with improvements in emotional functioning, social functioning, and fatigue status. Another study developed a Bayesian network model for preoperative risk stratification in endometrial cancer and validated it in two study cohorts. The model showed promise in predicting lymph node metastasis and 5-year disease-specific survival. A study on cervical dysplasia identified the human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes causing the condition, with non-vaccine HPV types being the main causes. Another study compared the outcomes of open versus minimally invasive radical hysterectomy in cervical cancer patients and found that open surgery had better disease-free survival. Additionally, there were articles on chemotherapy exacerbating ovarian cancer cell migration and cancer stem cell-like characteristics, quality of life outcomes after different types of hysterectomy, and evaluation of toxicities related to novel therapy in clinical trials for gynecologic cancer. Finally, an article discussed the importance of discussing the cost and value of tumor genomic testing with patients.
