Pdf Summary
Ed's List for September 2020 features a variety of articles related to gynecologic oncology. One study investigated the quality-adjusted progression-free survival (QA-PFS) and quality-adjusted time without symptoms or toxicity (Q-TWiST) in patients with recurrent ovarian carcinoma receiving rucaparib maintenance treatment. The results showed significantly longer QA-PFS with rucaparib compared to placebo in all predefined patient cohorts. Another study focused on the risks of second primary gynecologic cancers following ovarian cancer treatment in Asian ethnic subgroups in the United States. The findings revealed that Asian/Pacific Islander women had a higher incidence of second primary gynecologic cancers compared to White women. Additionally, a study explored a prognostic gene expression signature for high-grade serous ovarian cancer, identifying a panel of genes associated with overall survival. The study emphasized the potential for targeted therapeutic approaches based on these genes. Another study evaluated the feasibility and outcomes of using hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) after interval debulking surgery for advanced epithelial ovarian cancer. The results showed that HIPEC was feasible, did not increase perioperative complications, and did not affect patient recovery or time to start adjuvant chemotherapy. Additionally, an article discussed the use of a simulation model to estimate the natural history of cervical carcinogenesis and its implications for cervical cancer prevention and screening policies. Finally, a study explored the association between antihistamine use and ovarian cancer survival, suggesting a prognostic benefit associated with antihistamines with cationic amphiphilic drug characteristics.
