Video Summary
This talk discusses sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping and biopsy in vulvar cancer to reduce morbidity from full lymph node dissections. Traditional methods use blue dye and technetium-99, but near-infrared imaging with indocyanine green (IC-green) has gained popularity due to its efficacy and ease. Studies, including MSK's 19-year experience, show combined technetium-99 and IC-green provides the best node identification. Eligible patients have unifocal tumors ≤4 cm and no suspicious nodes, requiring bilateral mapping if near midline. The procedure involves peripheral injections of IC-green, near-infrared imaging for real-time visualization, and gamma probes to localize nodes for precise excision with minimal incision size.
