Video Summary
This presentation reviews sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy evolution in vulvar cancer management, aiming to reduce morbidity from radical groin dissections. SLN biopsy is safe and effective for select patients with tumors under 4 cm and no suspicious nodes. Techniques evolved from blue dye and radiocolloid lymphoscintigraphy to near-infrared imaging with indocyanine green (ICG), which offers superior real-time visualization. Memorial Sloan Kettering’s experience showed high SLN detection rates (~96%) and low groin failure rates, with increasing use of ICG over time. A surgical video demonstrates the precise, less invasive SLN mapping procedure using ICG and gamma probe guidance.
