Video Summary
This webinar marked the first collaboration between IGCS and the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR), aiming to advance education, research, and multidisciplinary care for patients with gynecologic cancer. Hosted by Nadim Abou-Rustam and Katherine Maturin, the session focused on uterine leiomyosarcoma and how to suspect it on imaging, especially MRI.

Dr. Yulia Lachman presented a clinical case and explained the challenges of distinguishing leiomyoma from leiomyosarcoma. She reviewed the strengths and limitations of ultrasound, CT, PET-CT, and emphasized MRI as the best current modality for characterizing indeterminate myometrial masses. Key MRI features discussed included T1 hemorrhage, T2 signal, diffusion restriction, contrast enhancement, and border irregularity.

She also outlined a consensus MRI interpretation algorithm, while noting its limitations and false negatives. Future improvements may include incorporating patient age, lesion borders, blood products, necrosis patterns, and possibly artificial intelligence. The discussion also covered the emerging role of percutaneous biopsy, LDH as a supportive marker, and imaging clues for other sarcomas such as endometrial stromal sarcoma.

The webinar closed with a strong call for closer collaboration between radiologists and gynecologic oncologists, and anticipation of future IGCS-SAR educational programs.
